He will make me a killer.
Or he will have me killed.
That is my destiny.

Seventeen-year-old Marianne is fated to one day become the Viper, defender of the Twelve Isles.

But the reigning Viper stands in the way. Corrupt and merciless, he prowls the seas in his warships, killing with impunity, leaving on,y pain and suffering in his wake.

He's the most dangerous man on the ocean ... and he is Marianne's father.

She was born to protect the islands. But can she fight for them if it means losing her family, her home, the boy she loves- and perhaps even her life?

A brave heroine. An impossible dilemma. An epic new fantasy trilogy set on the high seas.

Debut author, Bex Hogan has brought us the first book in her Isles of Storm and Sorrow trilogy, Viper. Marianne has know nothing but the boat life her whole life. So Marianne goes in search of her future husband and hopes he will aid her in her fight against her father and his crew. Will Marianne finally be able to get away from her father's clutches or will he end her life as swiftly as he does his enemies?

A massive thank you to Amy from Hachette Australia for sending me a copy of Viper to read and review. I picked up Viper when I was having a break from reading some of my longer books as I thought it would be a nice quick read. It was certainly a quick read that I was immediately drawn into. The world that Bex Hogan created gave a very Piarates of the Caribbean feel and was very well written so you just felt that you were there right beside the characters experiencing everything that happened. The fight scenes were very detailed and you instantly wanted to just jump into the pages and fight alongside the crew. And then of course you just knew that our heroine would be one kickass Viper when her time came. I loved Marianne's journey throughout the book where she kind of goes from this timid, not too sure of her self girl to a role model to all girls who teaches everyone to never stop fighting for what you believe in even if it looks like the odds are against you.

The last thing I should properly mention is the fantastic love triangle that isn't a love triangle between Marianne, Torin and Bronn that Bex Hogan has written into Viper. I think this one was one of the better non love triangles that I have read. Anyone can tell that Marianne and Bronn have a really strong connection from the opening chapters but it seems that they themselves can't see it. But of course when a new perspective partner comes along that they get engaged to that changes everything but what if it's not all that it's made out to be. In the end I think that the way Bex Hogan has written this triangle is just perfect for the book and I can't wait to see how it develops in the next book. I'm so looking forward to book 2, Venom.
