Nothing's been the same for Beth Teller since she died. Her dad, a detective, is the only one who can see and hear her- and he's drowning in grief. But now they have a mystery to solve together. Who is Isobel Catching, and what's her connection to the fire that killed a man? What happened to the people who haven't been seen since the fire? As Beth unravels the mystery, she finds a shocking story lurking beneath the surface of a small town, and a friendship that lasts beyond one life and into another.

My Review
Thoughts on the book: Catching Teller Crow is the first ya novel from brother and sister duo Ambelin Kwaymullina & Ezekiel Kwaymullina. Beth Teller was killed in a car accident and since then hasn't been able to move on because she knows her father needs her. When her father gets assigned a new case to investigate a fire at a children's home where a body was found in the ashes, Beth hopes that this case may finally help him move on. But as they delve further into the case and discover more clues the case doesn't seem to be as open and shut as originally made out to be. When Beth and her father go to question the witness they meet Isobel Catching who says she will tell her story but no one else has believed her yet so she isn't very optimistic. From here the east of the story is told from Beth's point of view and Catching's, which is told in verse. The more Catching talks and the more Beth and her father investigate the more they discover that they really can't trust anyone as you never know who might be in cahoots with the ring leaders of this fire. But when the case is solved will there be a happy ending or will it be the greatest loss the town has ever felt?

A massive thank you to Jessica from Allen and Unwin for sending me a copy of Catching Teller Crow by Ambelin Kwaymullina & Ezekiel Kwaymullina to read and review. I remember being asked to be apart of this cover reveal but unfortunately I didn't reply in time and missed out but thought that the book sounded really amazing and sounded like it would be something different to what I have read before. Ambelin Kwaymullina & Ezekiel Kwaymullina certainly provide a new voice in YA fiction that will have many running out to get this and future novels by the duo. Their unique writing skills have us being told the story in verse and in normal story telling and explores the history of aboriginals in Australia and how they have suffered over time and still to this day. It was very insightful and I devoured the story in half a day because I just couldn't put it down and wanted to find out who had set the fire and who Catching actually was. The ending was surprising and left me gobsmacked which is something that you really want to be left with when reading a story. I can't wait for more from this fantastic duo and to learn more about aboriginal history from their point of view.
