My Review
Thoughts on the book: (May contain spoilers)
Grace & Fury is the new YA fantasy series from Tracy Banghart which centres around sisters Nomi and Serina Tessaro and is told from their points of view. Serina has been preparing her whole life to be a Grace, one of the Superior's women who stand beside him, and her sister Nomi has been preparing to be her handmaiden. When Serina is chosen to represent her hometown of Lanos to vie to be the heir's new Grace, Serina snd Nomi must pack up their lives and move to Bellaqua. Here is where the real competition starts for the race to be a Grace and it all really comes down to one event, a ball thrown in the honour of the Graces-to-be so that the heir can look and make his picks of the group. The hand, aides are left in a room while their Grace's are at the ball except Nomi wanders off and finds a library where she finds her favourite book and decides to steal it to remind her of home. Now this sounds normal to us but in Bellaqua women have no rights and aren't allowed to read or write, but Nomi learnt in secret. Upon returning to the room she is caught up when the heir and his younger brother find her not where she is supposed to be and secretly hiding a stollen book in her dress. They end up letting her pass and after returning to the room and when the Graces return they are told who has been chosen. But what happens when the one that was supposed to be chosen isn't and her handmaiden is instead? Well that's what happens to Nomi and Serina much to their dismay. Nomi doesn't want to be a Grace as they embody everything that she hates about society. But when the girls get caught with the book Nomi has stolen the next day, one gets sent to the island prison and the other must continue as a Grace. Will Serina and Nomi be able to survive on the path that has been presented to them or will they both fail?
Thank you so much to Amy from Hachette Australia for sending me an advance copy of Grace & Fury to read and review. I wasn't too sure what to expect going into it as I had one blogger saying they loved it and another saying they dnf'd it (did not finish it) but considering that it had been compared to The Selection and Red Queen I knew that I wanted to give it a try and it certainly disappoint. I went into Grace & Fury sure that I knew what was going to happen and who was going to be going where but within the first 50 pages my whole mind was blown and I realised how wrong I could be. But it didn't just stop within those first 50 pages, I was constantly rocked with new shocks and it kept going right up until the end of the book. Now if the author can hurry up and give me a copy of the second book in the series that would be amazing. Why authors must leave us on these cliffhangers is beyond me. I just want to know what happens next. Will that person survive that was left on deaths doorstep at the end of the book? Will the girls ever be reunited? I want answers now.
