Things that happen sometimes when your boyfriend is a magical fairy prince: he gets kidnapped by his older brother and whisked away to fulfil his destiny in their magical fairy kingdom.

But Pearl Linford is not having that. It's time for a rescue mission. Pearl told Finn she was coming to get him and she's not going to let anyone stand in her way.

But will Finn want to be saved? And even if Pearl can work out how to tear a hole in the universe, how many people will die before she can get to him?

My Review
Thoughts on the book:
                                                     CONTAINS SPOILERS
Misrule is the third novel in the Valentine series by Jodi McAlister where we follow Pearl, Finn and their friends as they deal with the latest antics that the fairy world has thrown at them. Misrule takes off right where the cliffhanger of Ironheart left us, Pearl has just saved Phil and left Finn in fairyland with his brother the crown prince. Upon returning to Phil's house they discovered that Phil's mother has been murdered and from here things go downhill for everyone. All Pearl wants is to get Finn back and she won't stop until he's in front of her but it's proving difficult when everyone else doesn't seem to want the same thing. It doesn't help that at every turn Pearl I worried that she is going to get arrested for the murder of Phil's mother and that the crown prince seems to be playing with her at every turn. Will Pearl and her friends be able to save Finn and the other humans trapped in fairyland and make it out alive?

A massive thank you to the amazing team at Penguin Random House Australia for sending me an early copy of Misrule by Jodi McAlister to read and review. I was so excited when I recieved my copy because I couldn't wait to learn what the final book in the triology would hold after the cliffhanger that we were left on at the end of Ironheart. I remember finishing Ironheart and immediately emailing the publisher to ask when the next book would be out as I needed to know what happened to Finn and Pearl next. You can imagine how much I hated having to wait that long and so when I recieved it I started it with very high hopes. Well I can tell you that my hopes were met throughout the book but the ending left me with a little bit to be desired.

There were so many things that I loved in Misrule like the fact that we learnt more about Pearl's family, Pearl and Phil making up and their friendship becoming stronger, learning more about fairyland and what happens there and this magical line with reference to Snape.
'No. Slow your roll, Pearl. Hunter might have been pulling a massive Snape on you, but he's not your father.'
Of course my favourite part by far in the book was Pearl's never ending faith that she would get Finn back despite even Finn not believing that she could. She fought so hard to work out how to save him, putting not only her life but also that of her friends and family's, on the line to rescue Finn. Despite them being only teenagers their love clearly will last beyond anything life can throw at them, be faerie related or human related they always find their way back to each other. Their relationship is one of my favourite YA couples.

I had two let downs in Misrule. One was that the ending just seemed to come upon me so quickly that it seemed I was 10 pages out and I was only just finding out what was going to happen to Finn and couldn't believe that Jodi was going to end the trilogy with so many of my questions unanswered. Yes thankfully our trusty group of friends made it through book 3 alive but there were a few deaths that I never expected and then there also were a few people's lives who were unaccounted for at the end. These questions were the second let down for me with Misrule. I wanted to know what happened to Holly, whether she was going to wake up from her vision in fairyland or not and also what happened to the other three children who were taken in place of the four Valentine. How can Jodi not tell us what became of Pearl's sister Oyster and I really want to know who their father was. Beside these I did really enjoy this trilogy and I hope that Jodi dives into the Valentine-iverse very soon so I can get more stories about my favourite characters.
