Real
By Katy Evans
Publisher: Simon and Schuster
Remington Tate has a bad-boy rep in and out of the ring,
a granite-hard body, and a raw, animal power that sends his female fans into a
frenzy. But from the moment their eyes lock, the only woman he wants is Brooke
Dumas. His desire is pure, all-consuming, and REAL.
Hired to keep his professional body working like a
machine, Brooke finally has the lucrative sports therapy job she’s been
dreaming of. But as she tours the dangerous underground fighting circuit with
Remy and his team, Brooke’s own body becomes alive with the most primal of
hungers. If what happens between Brooke and Remy is ever as light as a
flirtation, it quickly becomes and erotic obsession for them both, and promises
much more.
But their white-hot list has a dark side- and when Remy’s
deepest secret comes to light and Brooke’s familial duties demand action, will
the pair be able to hang on, or will everything that once seemed so real
suddenly fade away like an illusion?
My review
(warning does contain some spoilers)
Real is the story about former champion runner Brooke
Dumas, who is dragged to the underground fights by her best friend to see who
she claims is the hottest underground fighter around, Remington ‘Riptide’ Tate.
After catching Brooke’s eye at the match, Remington (Remy) decides to offer
Brooke a job for a couple of months in his team to keep him fit and healthy.
Upon agreeing Brooke travels all around with Remy and his entourage. But Brooke
is in for more than she bargains for as Remy and his team are keeping a secret.
Real was a fantastic read and what made it so enjoyable
to me is that Katy has written Remy as having Bi-Polar and how nobody
understands the disease. My husband actually has Bi-Polar and I love reading
books where characters have it as I can really relate to them and understand
what a struggle it is not only to the person suffering from it but also to that
person’s support team. Remy has it more extreme than my husband but that
doesn’t mean that I still can’t relate. It is great to see authors writing more
and more books about disorders that aren’t spoken about much in the public eye.
Brooke and Remy make a fantastic couple and complement
each other quite well. Remy takes care of Brooke by looking after her injured leg
and generally keeping an eye on her so that nothing bad happens to her. Remy
would even through a fight if there even looked like someone was looking at or
getting too close to Brooke for comfort. The same can be said for Brooke with
Remy. If it looks like Remy needs a break or is getting into trouble, Brooke
will be there to deal with it and let everyone know what is going on and what
needs to be done. I think the best part about their relationship is when
Remington does something so selfless for Brooke, but Brooke doesn’t know that
that is what he is doing that she decides that he is better off without her. It
is a really touching moment when everything is all cleared up.
I can’t wait to read the next two books, Mine and Remy.
