My Review
Thoughts on the book: A Strange Kind of Brave is the new novel from Sarah Moore Fitzgerald and is told in the voices of Jake McCormack (the mysterious town villain who no one has ever really seen), Luca Spinelli (the new boy in town) and Allie Redmond (a local girl who has never left the small town of Clanfedden) and Veronica Grassbloom (town librarian and overall nice woman). Jake McCormack has been the town villain in Clanfedden for as long as many people can remember. He basically owns the town until suddenly it seems he doesn't. Luca Spinelli and his mother Ariana move to town after purchasing Jake McCormack's business that went up for sale and turn it into an eatery while also cleaning up the town. Since they arrived in town it seems that everyone is feeling much safer and seem to be forgetting about Jake McCormack. Allie is intruiged by Luca and starts spending time with him and they quickly become fast friends but Luca is hiding something from Allie and when she discovers it will she be able to stay friends with him or will it tear them apart? When Jake McCormack realises he has lost his grip on the town he takes matters into his own hands. Will everyone make it out of Clanfedden alive?
A massive thank you to the team at Hachette for sending me a copy of A Strange Kind of Brave to read and review. This book really surprised me with how much I really enjoyed it. It sat on my bookshelf for awhile and I needed a quick read one day so thought I'd try A Strange Kind Of Brave as it sounded interesting and looked like it would be a quick read, but little did I know how much I was actually going to love this book. I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of twists and turns that there were in the storyline and each time I thought I had everything worked out I was proved wrong each time and the massive plot twist is OMG.
The characters are amazing with the villain, Jake McCormack, being everything you look for in a villain: chilling, desperate, scheming, dark and cut throat, doing anything he can to keep the town and his name in the front of everyone's mind. Our young heroes Luca Spinelli and Allie Redmond are just two normal teenagers who are sick of Jake McCormack pushing everyone around in town and basically playing major of the town with his standover tactics. When everything comes to a head (which of course you will never see coming) it is these two heroes who go above and beyond, even putting their lives on the line to try an stop the villain in his tracks. They are just loveable characters that you will fall in love with and have you feeling all the feels.
A Strange Kind of Beautiful is a gorgeous book that everyone needs to pick up for its amazing characters, storyline and plot twist.
