My Review
Thoughts on the book: Ascension is the first book in the new YA sci-fi trilogy from Victor Dixen. Six girls and six boys have been chosen from millions of people around the world to become the first people to live on Mars. Each person has been trained to hold a role that will prepare them for their life on Mars. While they rocket on up to Mars from Earth each day a male and a female will have 6 minutes to get to know each other and just before they reach Mars they each have to pick a life partner who they will marry upon landing. The whole thing is being filmed and live streamed back tot earth. Little do they all know that they have basically been sent on a suicide mission, they have been sent up knowing they they will not survive on Mars.

Thank you so much to Allen and Unwin for sending me a copy of Acension by Victor Dixen to read and review. I recieved the second book, Distortion in the mail to review last month and upon reading what it was about I discovered that I would need to read the first book before embarking on the second. So the ever amazing Allen and Unwin sent me a copy of book 1 which I quickly started and couldn't put down. Acension reminded me a bit of the Cell 7 series by Kerry Drewery in that an event that you normally wouldn't televise is televised for the whole world to see and then they can bid or vote on things to improve the people on the show or to make inns worse for them. I loved Cell 7 and Acension was right up there with it.

Acension dragged me in from the moment I started it. The first scene is when they are affirming their promise to go onto the ship and be apart of the program after 12 months of training. We are introduced to our characters and each has something different about them and we learn all their quirks along the way. Each participant was chosen for s specific reason and each one is hiding a secret. We learn a few of the characters secrets in this first book and I think we will be learning more about each of them with the subsequent books that follow. The whole idea for the book is really interesting where it's almost like big brother meets a dating show where they are all stuck together, the boys on one side and the girls on the other and they only meet for 6 minutes at a time every other day or so. I haven't read a book with this concept before and it was thrilling and grabbing at the same time. And that ending just had me wanting to reach for book 2 straight away. The only thing is I can read book 2 now but book 3 hasn't been released here in Australia yet which makes me want to hold back from reading it as I know I'm just going to want to know what happens.

So if you want a nice easy read that will draw you in, with unique characters and is a bit different from your normal read please pick up Ascension and give it a go. You certainly won't be disappointed.
